Local Chefs from 3 Yorkshire Dales Challenge

 National Food Critic.

After Food Critic Michael Winner criticised all Northern food as rubbish, 3 Chefs and local foodies are prepared to issue a challenge back to him.

Settle Festival has organised the popular  “Take 3 Chefs” demonstration cookery evenings  since 2008, and has worked with many top Northern cooks, including Pub Chef of the Year from Michelin starred kitchens, Michael Ward, and award winning Yorkshire Chef, Stephanie Moon.

The latest upcoming event, on Wednesday 17th March at Settle Victoria Hall, features Bruce Elsworth, from Multi-Award winning The Angel Inn at Hetton, Terry Quinn, from The Lister Arms in Malham, and Richard Wright from The Craven Arms in Giggleswick. They will be cooking with Local Produce, and food suppliers will be working with them at the event, to display the best of Yorkshire Food Provenance.

Settle Festival events organiser Mark Dale, a working Chef and Catering Advisor himself, who has done display cookery for The National Park and at National Major events, such as The CLA Game Fair, says “ ….  For Mr Winner to say that “all Northern Food is terrible beyond human belief” is so wrong and unfair on all who work in the food industry, and we are prepared for him to come and see our demo, to show the diversity and quality of food we can offer here. We have chefs cooking from a range of different types of dining places, such as the rural pub, where Terry is Chef/Manager, the award winning inn where Bruce is Executive Chef , and the newest local organic meat eatery where Richard is Head Chef. – These great chefs will be cooking a range of superb food, that would make Michael Winner eat his words !  - he is welcome to come and see, and taste and then try and make such a statement !”

Wine matching and food tasters will be available on the night, and with a raffle and displays of local ingredients, Farm Shop Owner James Ingle and International food blogger Chris Wildman from Paganum,  it offers plenty to show  Mr Winner how wrong he is! MC for the evening will be Margaret Holgate – infamous local WI personality and former home economics teacher!

Tickets available from Victoria Hall 01729 825718

"Sourcing food locally, knowing who grew it, reared it and harvested it at it's very best, is very much a way of life for Ribble Valley Inns...with each pub sourcing ingredients from it's own local suppliers, then creating dishes to capture the abundance of taste and freshness.

Dishes that have huge appeal to all lovers of good food...including children. The Highwayman is not a 'gastro pub' but a 21st century version of 'the local', with the addition of regional food of outstanding quality and imagination, and a line of beers and wines to add even more to the perfect experience.
